Catch a fire se editó en 1973 por Island Records (discográfica creada por Chris Blackwell para difundir la música reggae en Gran Bretaña) y, como suele suceder con las obras maestras, pasó casi desapercibida. Grabada con los últimos avances tecnológicos en los estudios de grabación nos muestra a la dupla autoral Marley-Tosh en la cúspide de su talento creativo. Las canciones ofrecen un giro militante y de conciencia social que identificarían la obra posterior de Marley. La música es hipnótica, sosegada, una extraña mezcla de reggae y soul, que nos invita a relajarnos, a olvidarnos del mundo circundante, vamos, a fumarnos una de esas escopetas de marihuana con las que Marley decora la portada.

Con el tiempo Catch a fire ha tomado el lugar que le corresponde como disco fundacional del reggae y uno de los más importantes en la carrera de Bob Marley. Para la revista Rolling Stone ocupa el puesto 123 de los 500 mejores discos de todos los tiempos.
